Sonatina
Lawrence Whiffin
for piano
Copied and edited by Kim Bastin.
Whiffin's Sonatina for piano, written in 1985, finds its place among a number of series of teaching pieces for piano that he wrote after his return from Europe to Australia in 1976 to take up a lectureship in the newly established Music Department of La Trobe University. It was released in 1988 through the Australian Music Centre in the same volume as Cat Pieces (see Astra Score 20) under the general heading "Piano music for young players". Technically it is the most demanding of Whiffin's teaching pieces, calling for considerable keyboard facility and, if possible, simultaneous singing and playing.
